My Cybot January 2002 7k

A Cybot is a small robot that comes in a kit with a fortnightly magazine, Real Robots. The magazine has instructions on building the Cybot and features about robots in the real world and in science fiction. It has input from the folks at Robot Wars TV show and features how to make your own robot out of plywood and bits of motor. Anyone interested should look up the website www.realrobots.co.uk.

I get the feeling that this magazine and robot kit has been designed with teenage boys in mind, although I reckon there are probably a fair amount of older boys playing with their screwdrivers out there. As I missed out on the whole ZX Spectrum thing because of being a girl, I decided that now I have my own money I can decide what I want to spend it on. I have been interested in robots from a young age and was just waiting for technology to get this advanced so that I could take an interactive part in the Robot Revolution.

But I am quite behind and have a backlog of magazines that I have to get through. This photo was taken in January. I plan to take some every few stages and keep a bit of a robot diary of it.

This is the cybot at issue 25, with the remote control and usual debris of my geeky life. Action Man car, coffee mug, Discworld 'Thud' game and Xena DVD box set. Just a normal Sunday afternoon. Cybot debris Feb 2003 22k

I try to work on my Cybot when no-one else is around as I take up so much room. But my dog is always around and has witnessed the whole process with interest. Although she was a bit perturbed when Cybot started to follow her! Here is Mika inspecting my Cybot in Jan 2002 (see Mika's Page).
